How Has Government Investment in Energy Performance and Benchmarking Matched Industry Trends?
How active is your local government in the procurement of energy services, solutions, and products? With the United States ranking second in the world in terms of overall energy consumption, behind only China, it is safe to say that every facet of American society is reliant upon safe, reliable, competitive energy. Have you considered government’s immense impact on the energy industry, to include acquisitions? We did.
We have recently witnessed some substantial changes in the ways in which the U.S. identifies, purchases, generates, and consumes energy. As part of this trend, government agencies, companies, and other interested parties have increased their interest in energy performance and benchmarking solutions.
Yesterday, the U.S. Energy Department released a report, in part, “…which examines the current status of clean energy technologies and identifies hundreds of clean energy research opportunities that could support the effort to modernize the power sector…” Here is the full article.
Within their array of interesting statistics and information, here is a table from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) showing a recent history and future pricing summary for various forms of energy.
It is fairly common knowledge that the U.S.’s major energy sources are petroleum (oil), natural gas, coal, nuclear, and renewable energy. Also, most know the major users are residential and commercial buildings, industry, transportation, and electric power generators. I came across this article and found it interesting where the EIA compares the different fuels and notes which energy sources are used by each sector.
